Week of March 27:
Dates to Remember:

Wednesday, March 29: Reading Log check-in day
Friday, March 31: New book report selection due
Monday, April 3: March Reading Log Due
Now that we have finished studying The Outsiders, we will begin a short study of the history of "The Star Spangled Banner," our national anthem. Students will read an article from Scope Magazine, and then study the meaning of the words of the song. They will then write an essay based on the article and song.
Students should begin looking for a new book for their next book report. They should bring in their next book for approval on Friday, March 31.
We have started a Lenten project, which is to spend some time on the website, Freerice.com. On this website, students answer trivia questions based on academic subjects. For every correct answer, 10 grains of rice are donated to the United Nations World Food Programme. 7th and 8th grade will be competing against each other to see which grade donates the most rice. At the end of Lent, I will tally the numbers, and the winning grade will have a pizza party. Students should enjoy the website knowing that they are helping to feed someone in need in the world. 7th Graders can click on this link to join: http://freerice.com/frog/join/5303734/819e898b8ed8146dc2f0b5c91de5cbb0
Or, you can sign on and go under "Groups," then "Find Groups." Classes are listed as Grade 7 2017 and Grade 8 2017. Good luck!
The students are required to read at least 15-20 minutes five nights a week and document what they read in their active reading chart. Parents are asked to initial the cover of the reading log each week indicating that the work has been completed and to sign the reading log at the end of each month. Reading logs are checked on a weekly basis and count as a homework assignment. A test grade is earned for each monthly reading log The March reading log is due on Monday, April 3.
