The middle school students will participate in a school-wide spelling bee on Friday, May 12. This week, students will receive a list of words to study. Each class will have its own spelling bee, and the top two students from each class will be chosen to represent their class at the school bee.
We will also start a poetry unit. Students should bring volume 2 of their literature textbook to class each day.
Students should be completing their next book report. It is due on Friday,May 5.
We completed our Lenten project on Freerice.com. Overall, the students from SDES donated 1,162,600 grains of rice to the United Nations World Hunger Program. The following students were the top donors and have earned a pizza party which will take place on Tuesday, May 2 during lunchtime:

Students should be reading 15-20 minutes each night and completing their active reading charts on their reading logs. Reading logs are checked each Wednesday and are submitted at the end of each month. Make sure you are diligent and thorough in completing your logs. The April reading log is due on Monday, May 1.
Extra help for English Language Arts will take place on Mondays from 2:45 to 3:30 in Room 202. All students who have questions are welcome to come for extra help.
Journalism club meets on Wednesdays (note date change due to lacrosse) after school from 2:45-3:45 in Room 202. All students are welcome to attend!
