Mrs. Petruccio
As a shy, well-behaved sixth grader, imagine my surprise, when Sr. Marion called me up to her desk. She had me quaking in my penny loafers, as only a nun could do! She asked me to put my homework on the blackboard and explain it to the class. It was from that moment on that I was hooked on teaching. My dad made a framed blackboard so I could play "school" with my two younger sisters. ( Of course, I was always the teacher!)
After graduating from St. John's University with a BS in English/ Education 7-12, I taught 6th and 7th grade reading, ELA, and science at Resurrection Ascension while pursuing my Masters Degree. The next few years, I raised my three (beautiful) daughters, setting-up the playroom like a classroom!
When I returned to education, I taught English at Sacred Heart Academy, often serving on several committees, and becoming the Dean of Students. This prompted me to enroll in Fordham's Administrative tract where I became the Principal of St. Patrick in Bay Shore. Along with the teachers, we raised the academics standards through Professional Development and innovative programs by believing in every student.
This is my third year as Principal at St. Dominic Elementary and Middle School and I am loving every minute. We are a small school that affords students the individual attention needed to gain confidence, knowledge, and success. We know and love all the students entrusted to our care. We have a campus that includes a Junior High, High School, and Fields. The students can take "One Journey Through Faith and Education."
